The attribution to Josse van Liere is based on the old inscription on the lower right and on an engraving with the inscription "Jodocus van Lier inventor. Hhondius excudit" (Hollstein IX, S. 88, no. 43) depicting a village, similar to the "Small Landscapes", that have been attributed to Josse van Liere by Egbert Haverkamp Begemann in 1975.
